Examination System & Promotion Policies

At R.C. Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, the evaluation system is designed to ensure fair assessment, continuous learning, and holistic growth. Examinations are not seen merely as a test of memory, but as a process to measure understanding, discipline, and progress.

Assessment Structure

Formative Assessment (FA)

  • Conducted throughout the term.
  • Includes slip tests, projects, discussions, role plays, debates, skill-based activities, and assignments.
  • Encourages creativity, analytical thinking, and application of knowledge.

Summative Assessment (SA)

  • Conducted at the end of each term.
  • Evaluates the syllabus covered during the term through written examinations.
  • Ensures students have grasped key concepts and can perform under formal exam conditions.

Weightage System

  • Formative Assessment: 40%
  • Summative Assessment: 60%
  • Together, these provide a comprehensive picture of student performance.

Examination Rules

  • Every student is expected to appear for all scheduled tests and examinations.
  • Cheating or malpractice during exams will result in strict disciplinary action, including cancellation of the paper.
  • Students must maintain silence and discipline in the examination hall.
  • Results once declared are final and cannot be reconsidered.

Promotion Policies

  • Promotion to the next class is based on overall performance in Formative and Summative Assessments.
  • Regularity in attendance, punctual submission of assignments, and participation in class activities are considered during promotion.
  • Students who fail to secure the minimum required marks may be given special guidance and remedial support, but promotion will depend on consistent effort.
  • Absence from exams without valid reasons will negatively impact promotion.

Study Habits & Responsibilities

  • Students are encouraged to devote at least two hours in the evening and one hour in the morning for personal study on school days.
  • On holidays, additional time should be spent in revision and practice, particularly for board classes (Std. X & XII).
  • Parents are expected to monitor study schedules, sign progress reports, and support their child’s learning journey.

Evaluation Records

  • The comprehensive evaluation record of every student is maintained by the school.
  • In case of transfer, this record will be provided along with the Transfer Certificate, ensuring continuity of education.
